Thanks to a generous donation by Linn County Rural Electric Cooperative (REC), Oak Ridge Middle School located in Marion Iowa, now has one on Iowa’s largest solar photovoltaic installations. Two large Zomeworks arrays with (20) twenty 130 watt Kyocera solar panels track the sun and are capable of producing 2,600 watts (2.6KW) of clean renewable electric power directly from the sun. The system is connected to the electric grid and uses the latest wireless technology to monitor the power produced and sends the information to the internet for public viewing. Although, the solar panels provide a small part of the school’s electric power, it is a valuable learning aide on the use of the sun as a renewable energy source.
